In My Own Way

I’ve battled those who thought they were tall

And nursed giants still running from a fight.

I’ve challenged kings in their empty hall

And carried the lowly in places hidden from sight.

I’ve honors in cities of which few can talk

And been cursed by some who saw themselves wrathful.

I’ve sat with the lost where few dare to walk

And braved the dark spaces of the ashamed and bashful.

I’ve been to places you’ll likely never see

And gained great rewards and lost most that I got.

I’ve been subjected to tyrants who never knew me.

And, likely, none will remember, all might be forgot.

I’ve posters of warning that say that I’m wanted

And continued to roll my boulder up the hill.

I’ve sleeplessly dreamed of all that was stunted

And found the courage to persevere still.

I’ve heavied my life with wisdom’s call

And sought nothing greater than to be your father.

I’ve strived to rid myself of being loved by all

And, in such, to God be a lauder.

I’ve much to offer despite all those who taunt

And never wanted such struggles to burden you.

I’ve slain dragons for the countless few who were haunt

And perhaps, in my own way, such stories are true.
