In The Calling of God, we begin a needed conversation about how to fervently embark on a wild journey as God’s beloved disciples. For many of us, the calling of God on our lives can either appear far too mysterious or seemingly out of reach; but, the truth is that it is the will of God to draw us—allure us—into a beautiful adventure of purpose, life, and intimacy as his disciples. By diving into the Word of God, establishing firm foundations in our faith, and listening eagerly for the loving lure of God’s tender voice drawing us into further and further intimacy with him, The Calling of God explores the divine as revealed to us in Scripture so that we can all find the heart of God that beckons us to come to him.
The book centers on finding the extravagant heart of the Father in the very foundations of the faith. The inspiration for the book started as an effort to create discipleship materials for a local church; the materials were to be utilized in small groups as well as one-on-one discipleship meetings; but, as the writing developed, it became obvious that a more intimate conversation was required to reveal the heart of the Father.
The hope is that this book can be for everyone. For new believers, beginning the walk as Christ’s disciple can be daunting; for the long-time follower, the daily pursuit of God can grow stale. The effort of this work aims to equip the people of God (those new to the faith as well as those seasoned in the journey) with a confidence and energy to step into the wild and intimate adventure that is the Christian life. The motivation for The Calling of God is to bring dry bones to life and ignite revival.
“Deep within our hearts and psyche, woven into the very structure of our veins, is the desire for intimacy, a longing to connect. And, although many speak of spirituality as though it is a foggy otherness lacking clarity and tangibility, the longed for connection that is the desperation of our hearts is truly available to us as something real and present. We were made for a real connection. However, our desperation will not be satisfied with meager relation; the cry of our souls is to find our place in the transcendent, the one beyond. We were carefully crafted by a loving creator, and, ever since, we are anguished to return to the unwavering unity experienced in the garden. The great news is that the transcendent has made himself available, and he too seeks real union with ferocity.”
